Western Sydney University Master of Research International Scholarship: Sustainable Development Goals

Western Sydney University has recently been named number one in the world for it’s social, ecological, and economic impact in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings.(opens in new window)Opens in a new window This ranking recognises the University’s contribution to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

A scholarship opportunity exists for international students commencing study in our Master of Research program in 2023 to undertake research linked to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

These scholarships will have an exclusive focus on research on one or a combination of the Sustain Development Goals:

  • SDG 5: Gender Equality (to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls)
  • SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation (to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all)
  • SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities (to reduce inequality within and among countries)
  • SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production (to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns)
  • SDG 14: Life below water (to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, sea, and marine resources for sustainable development)
  • SDG 15: Life on land (to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss)
  • SDG 17: Partnerships for the goals (to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development)

International applicants that meet the following criteria:

Your application must provide a Statement of Intent that explains how your proposed research aligned with one or a combination of the above identified Sustainable Development Goals.

Scholarships include a stipend of $24,000(AUD) per annum for two (2) years.

A tuition fee waiver will be awarded.

Successful applicants will receive a combined offer for a Master of Research (MRes)/Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), with the final PhD offer being determined by successfully meeting academic progression and eligibility criteria for the program.

For international students, scholarships do not include an Overseas Student Health Care (OSHC)(opens in new window)Opens in a new window insurance policy. This cost must be covered by the student and is required for the duration of study in Australia.

Travel costs, visa costs, relocation expenses and other expenses are not covered by the scholarship.
