The Essex MBA Dean’s Award – October 2023 and January 2024 entry
Essex Business School is offering fee discounts between 10% and 100% of tuition fee value to students funding their own MBA studies starting in either October 2023 or January 2024.
The award will be offered in the form of a tuition fee discount.

Terms and conditions

Eligibility

◼ These scholarships are restricted to students who are Home(UK) and overseas fee payers and are entirely self-funded*.
◼ These scholarships are open to applicants to the full-time and part-time programmes starting their first year of study at Essex in 2023-24.
◼ Limited scholarships are available, and students are considered for their eligibility on a first-comefirst served basis. Students must accept their offer of a scholarship award within two weeks of an offer being made.
◼ Only one scholarship award can be made per student and the award cannot be held in conjunction with any other University of Essex scholarships, including the Alumni Loyalty Discount.
◼ Students receiving an award will be expected to be available for promotional activities.
*Students receiving a repayable loan to fund their studies will be considered as self-funded.

Students who are not eligible

The following students are NOT eligible for this scholarship regardless of meeting the above criteria:
◼ This scholarship award does not apply to deferred entry. Where a scholarship has been awarded to a student who subsequently defers entry to the following academic year or later within the same academic year (e.g. From October to January), the award will be withdrawn and the applicant will University of Essex be considered again in line with availability and the terms and conditions that apply to the new proposed point of entry.
◼ Students who are fully or partly sponsored.

How to apply

You will be invited to interview as soon as possible after submitting your course application. The MBA Team will assess you for a scholarship award during your interview.
During your interview, the MBA Team will be particularly looking for evidence of:
• Academic merit
• Work experience (quality and relevance of work experience, not simply time served)
• Your potential contribution to the learning experience on the programme
• Ideas on sustainable and entrepreneurial business
• Ability to communicate experience and ideas
• Plans for utilising the Essex MBA experience after the course
The University will also make use of official transcripts and certificates, your CV and your personal statement submitted as part of your original application for admission to the course, to decide the level of your award. No alternative supporting evidence will be accepted.
You will be notified of the award in the offer letter that you receive following your interview.

Payment arrangements

◼ These scholarships will only be made available as a reduction on the tuition fee that is payable on registration at the University. Payment cannot be offset against a tuition fee deposit if one is required.
◼ If you intermit from your course, you may, at the discretion of the University, be entitled to a prorata payment of the remainder of your award on your return to study. Please contact the Funding Team for further information.
◼ Students studying part-time versions of the MBA will have the same % fee discount applied to the relevant fee in each year of study. Students studying the modular version of the MBA will have the same % fee discount applied to the relevant fee for each module they undertake.

Resolution of disputes

Acceptance of this award constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions. Registered students
should contact the Funding Team in the first instance for guidance regarding this award. In cases not
covered by the above terms and conditions, or where a student claims exceptional circumstances, or
disputes a decision not to make payments due under an award, final appeals on decisions regarding
eligibility must be made via the Student Complaints process. The Academic Registrar or their nominee
will review the case and his/her decision will be final.
These terms and conditions apply to the academic year 2023-24. The University of Essex reserves the
right to update these terms and conditions as necessary.
