MRIWA PhD Scholarship in Australia

MRIWA offers two PhD scholarships each year for new projects aligning with our Research Priority Plan (RPP), which can be accessed here.

For 2020/21, two scholarships will be available for projects commencing after 31 October 2020 and before 30 June 2021.

Scholarships can be held at any university in Western Australia, and both international and domestic candidates are welcome to apply. Applications will be judged against criteria of academic and research excellence, and the quality of a detailed expression of interest submitted by the applicant.

MRIWA scholarships can also be offered as top-up scholarships to successful applicants who have also been awarded an RTP stipend scholarship through their host university.

How to apply

1.         Applicants are first required to enrol in a doctoral research degree at their preferred university. Your university application documents will be evaluated by MRIWA as part of the scholarship assessment process.

All applicants are encouraged to check the relevant closing dates at their chosen university. You must notify MRIWA of the progress of your university application, and only applicants who have been offered and accepted a place in a doctoral research program at an eligible university by December 13th 2020 will have their applications considered for final scholarship award.

2.        Once you have submitted an application to your preferred university, provide an Expression of Interest (EOI) to MRIWA. An EOI form will be available from MRIWA from the 1st of July 2020, but candidates are advised to begin preparing relevant documentation as early as possible. The content requested in the EOI will include:

Section A – Personal details
Applicant nameNationalityContact details: residential address, telephone and emailIELTS (or equivalent) documentation, where applicable
Section B – Relevant qualifications
Research credentials including details of qualifications and awards/recognition receivedSummary of related professional experience, if anyTwo (2) signed references from academics familiar with your research to date
Section C – MRIWA Scholarship Categories
Specify which scholarship (Odwyn Jones Scholarship or MRIWA Research Scholarship for Women) is being applied forProvide a formal Statement of Intent for interest in MRIWA scholarship
Section D – Research proposal
Confirmation of application for a PhD degree program at an eligible universityResearch proposal titleResearch proposal overview (max. 50 words)Proposed academic supervisors, with signed endorsement by them of the proposalIntended University Faculty at which the research will be undertakenResearch proposal detail including: Research problem to be addressed, project objectives, proposed methodology and project plan, including an outline of relevant timeframesDemonstration of how the proposed research:aligns to MRIWA’s RPP (max. 50 words);will provide benefit to Western Australia (max 100 words)

All documentation must be submitted in English. Where original documents are in another language, they must be translated into English by an accredited translator, and the translation must bear evidence of this accreditation.
