Mondi International Scholarship for Low-income Country to Study in Austria
Starting in 2021, the global leader in packaging and paper Mondi is funding seven scholarships per year for international students of the English-taught master programs at WU. Details on eligibility and conditions can be found in the GUIDELINES
- Application Form (available here as soon as a new call for applications is released). To make the selection process as fair as possible, master’s program applicants applying for all 3 priority deadlines must be given equal chances to apply for a scholarship. For this reason, applications are being accepted from June 28 to July 12, 2021 (preliminary dates).
- You are only eligible for this scholarship if you are a resident of one of the countries listed below:
Talenta
For many years, WU has been awarding the Talenta prize to the authors of the most outstanding academic theses of the year. The award winners receive a certificate and a cash prize provided by the City of Vienna. Each year, a jury selects the three top bachelor’s and master’s theses from all nominations. The selection committee consists of:
- three members of the Board of the Membership Association of WU Full Professors (Konvent)
- one junior faculty representative
- the Vice-Rector for Academic Programs and Student Affairs (Chair)
How can I nominate my master‘s thesis for the award?
Students cannot submit their master’s theses for the Talenta award directly. Each academic director holds an internal pre-selection procedure to decide which thesis should be nominated for the Talenta award. If you are interested in submitting your thesis for the award, please contact your supervisor so that your thesis can be considered for nomination.
Grants for an exchange semester, an internship abroad, or an ISU
The International Office offers various types of mobility grants and scholarships. If you plan to do an exchange semester at one of WU’s partner universities, an internship abroad, or an International Summer University, you can apply for a number of scholarships/grants.

My name is Belivia Onyango, a Kenyan student seeking to study in the Austrian University. I tender this humble request for a scholarship consideration as the situation back home cannot help me realize this dream. I am self-driven dreamer, born into poverty but consistently working to change this narrative. I am passionate about changing lives like my own not only within my immediate surroundings but also in the larger societal context. My village and country wallows in socioeconomic underdevelopment and political negativity —something I wish to change given the powers of a good education.
I am the eldest daughter in a family of 3. We live in a tiny remote village along the shores of Lake Victoria in Western Kenya. My mother is a housewife and my father a peasant fisherman on whose shoulders lay the burden of the family’s daily bread and other basic needs. The sorry economic status of my family denied me an opportunity to attend a better equipped high school. I, therefore, attended an underfunded local mixed day secondary school, where I excelled and qualified for University —the first in the school’s year history to do so. Many of my colleagues in school are undermined by economic strains and hence underperform and miss out on college education as a result. Like many of my colleagues, my high school attendance was intermittent for lack of school fees. My two other siblings who are still in school, suffer this same fate and it sickens to see their school life hanging by a thread as did mine. While I may be off the hook for now, my next phase of school life is wholly dependent on this scholarship or any other that may come along the way.
My request for your consideration is thus informed by an ambition borne out of the struggles and thirst for education and the desire to change myself and society. As a believer in excellence, I am confident that your investment in me will not go to waste. I intend to use any opportunity within my disposal to realize the goals of personal, professional and by extension, societal development on successful completion of my studies given this scholarship.
