Scholarships for Undergraduate or Postgraduate

College of Humanities and Social Sciences International Excellence Scholarships

This scholarship is available to international students studying in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. It is valued at NZ$5,000 per year for up to NZ$20,000 for undergraduate programmes, and NZ$10,000 for postgraduate programmes.

New Zealand Scholarship – for Pacific, Asian, African, Caribbean and Latin American countries

Funded by the New Zealand Government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), a New Zealand Scholarship offers eligible candidates the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills through study that will assist in the development of their home countries. Awardees are required to return to their home country for at least 2 years after the completion of their scholarship to apply these new skills and knowledge in government, civil society, or private business organisations.  Applications for a New Zealand Scholarship are available for the following qualifications:

  • Undergraduate Degree (3 – 4 years)
  • Postgraduate Certificate (6 months)
  • Postgraduate Diploma (1 year)
  • Master’s Degree (1 – 2 years)
  • PhD (3 – 4 years)

What does it cover?

  • Full tuition fees
  • Return economy air travel
  • An establishment allowance upon arrival in New Zealand
  • Medical insurance
  • Provision for students to meet basic living costs
  • The partners of students may be eligible for a work visa that allows them to live and work in New Zealand for the duration of their partner’s study.

Dilmah Tea International Study Award

The aim of the Massey University Dilmah Tea International Study Award is to recognise the relationship between Massey University and Dilmah Tea. It is for Dilmah Tea Employees and their immediate family members, who are new international students at Massey University and have demonstrated evidence of a project they have led that has contributed to a positive impact on their community.

Massey Business School International Student Study Awards 

The aim of the Massey Business School, International Student Study Award (“the Award”) is to attract top-achieving new international students enrolling in full-time business programmes on the Albany, Palmerston North (Manawatū) or Wellington campuses at Massey University.

The Awards may be awarded annually, and will be to the value of $5,000 per 120 credits enrolled, for up to the total credit value of the Programme

The value of the Scholarship will be

  • Undergraduate Programme maximum $15,000
  • Postgraduate Programme maximum $10,000

The award will be awarded for a term equivalent to the full-time study period for the recipient’s programme, but subject to satisfactory academic performance to instalment payments after the first year

School of Food & Advanced Technology First Year Undergraduate Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage students to enrol in an Engineering, Food Technology, or Nutritional Science degree at Massey University. Up to 10 scholarships will be awarded to the value of NZD $3,000 for one year only.

Massey University Creative Arts International Excellence Scholarships

This is open to students who have demonstrated academic excellence in Creative Arts subjects while studying in New Zealand or abroad for the following programmes:

  1. Bachelor of Design (Hons)
  2. Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons)
  3. Bachelor of Māori Visual Arts
  4. Bachelor of Creative Media Production
  5. Bachelor of Commercial Music

Each Scholarship is valued at NZD $20,000 for a 4-year degree or NZD $15,000 for a 3-year degree. Application deadline: 1 December for February entry and 1 May for July entry.

Postgraduate scholarships

New Zealand Pacific Scholarships

Pacific scholarships are open to applicants from government, civil society, private business organisations and qualified secondary school leavers to support both undergraduate and postgraduate study. Applications are welcome from the following countries Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. Special arrangements are made for those holding New Zealand citizenships or residency. China Scholarship Council – Massey University PhD Scholars Programme

Massey University invites high achieving, excellent Chinese students to apply for PhD study in New Zealand with scholarship support from the China Scholarships Council (CSC) and the University. There are up to 10 scholarships available annually and applications for admission at Massey close on 15 January 2020.

Doctoral Scholarships are awarded through the colleges, and scholarship applicants need to contact the relevant postgraduate coordinator in the college.

New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships (NZIDRS)

New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships provide financial support for postgraduate students seeking doctoral degrees by research in New Zealand universities. Up to ten scholarships are awarded annually. These scholarships are funded by the New Zealand Government and administered by the Education New Zealand Trust.

The scholarships aim to:

  • Attract top international students
  • Maximise the research capability, and output of New Zealand tertiary providers
  • Build deeper education partnerships with participating countries and regions
  • Enhance the international profile and reputation of New Zealand’s tertiary education institutions

Commonwealth Scholarships

These are offered to students from other parts of the Commonwealth under the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan. The scholarships aim to provide opportunities for students to pursue advanced courses or undertake research at a university in New Zealand. Candidates are required to be Commonwealth citizens or British protected persons and must have graduated from an institution in their own country. Find out more.

Massey University Postgraduate English Language Scholarships for Colombia

Who is it for?
Colombian students who have applied and been offered a place for a Master’s or PhD programme at Massey University conditional on meeting the English language requirements for their programme of study, and who have been awarded a COLFUTURO scholarship.

What is offered?
Full tuition fees for the Foundation Certificate in Advanced Academic English (16-week DEEP Advanced Programme) worth NZ$10,000. 

How to apply

  1. Apply online for the Foundation Certification in Advanced Academic English AND a Master’s or PhD at Massey University (OR apply through a registered education agent)
  2. Receive your Conditional or Full Offer of Place from Massey University
  3. Apply to COLFUTURO by 28 February
  4. Hear back from COLFUTURO (by 14 May)
  5. Apply for Massey’s scholarship for the Foundation Certificate in Advanced Academic English
