LION scholarship for International Students at Leiden University, the Netherlands

Non-Dutch nationals are eligible for a scholarship awarded by the Leiden Institute of Physics (LION) on funds made available by the Den Adel Fund for Experimental Physics and the Lorentz Fund for Theoretical Physics. About 10% of the admitted candidates are awarded a scholarship, on the basis of academic merit.

Each scholarship (€ 6000 per year) is awarded  for one year, renewable for the second year subject to satisfactory performance (i.e., 60EC with a GPA>8 in the first year). Be advised, scholarships do not exempt from the tuition fee of Leiden University, nor from the potential ‘proof of sufficient funds’ for the student visa/residence permit application to the Dutch Immigration Office (required for non EER nationals).

Admission process

1. Apply for admission to the MSc program in Physics through the https://www.universiteitleiden.nl/en/education/study-programmes/master/physics/admission-and-application website. Note that only applications that are complete before the deadline will be considered.

2.  The motivation letter for admission should explicitly mention the application to the fellowship, and argue the academic merit.

3. Add to your application file one reference letter from your current study program supporting your fellowship application.

4. Send an e-mail to: master-scs@physics.leidenuniv.nl to indicate that you apply for a LION scholarship.
