International Scholarships at Firbank Grammar School, Australia 2023
At Firbank, we value diversity and believe that every child should have the opportunity to study at a world-class school, no matter their financial situation. That is why we offer a wide range of scholarships in a variety of disciplines to help outstanding students achieve their very best.
External students not already in receipt of a scholarship are invited to apply for entry in 2023.
The scholarships will be tenable until the student has completed Year 12 for girls and the end of Year 6 for boys, subject to satisfactory performance. They will be awarded on the basis of an interview, application and the results of the scholarship examination to be held on Monday, 22 August 2022.
These scholarships offer a percentage remission of tuition fees, ranging from 15–50%. The School reserves the right to determine the percentage remission to be awarded to an outstanding student.
All applicants are required to sit the academic exam on Monday, 22 August 2022 at the Brighton Senior School campus.
Applications close at midday on Friday, 12 August 2022.

What types of Scholarships does Firbank Grammar offer?
Firbank Grammar offers a number of different scholarships for students who demonstrate excellence in areas such as academic, music, choral, sporting, general excellence and citizenship . Please click on the link for your preferred Campus and Year Level of entry (on the right of this page) for details about the types of scholarship available for that specific year.
My child is a current Firbank student, are they eligible to apply for these scholarships?
This round of scholarships is only available to external students, however our next round of scholarships will be held in February 2023 and these will be open to both current and external students. Please note that the February 2023 exams are for 2024 Scholarships.
What remission is provided to scholarship recipients?
These scholarships offer a percentage remission of tuition fees, ranging from 15–50%. The School reserves the right to determine the percentage remission to be awarded to an outstanding student.
Recipients of music scholarships also receive 15 lessons of music tuition per semester until the completion of Year 12.
Boarding scholarship recipients receive a discount off their boarding fees, and exceptional candidates may also be considered for a remission of tuition fees.
When will we know if we are successful?
The first round of interviews will be conducted the week commencing 12 September and it is expected that the scholarship process will be concluded by 4 October.
If we are not shortlisted for an interview the week commencing 12 September, does that mean we have been unsuccessful?
Occasionally, we conduct a second round of interviews if a family does not proceed with their application. All unsuccessful candidates will be contacted by 4 October.
Can my child apply for a scholarship again if unsuccessful in this round?
Yes. We welcome students to try again.
If my child is offered a scholarship for less than 50%, can they apply to top up their scholarship in the future?
The maximum scholarship offered by Firbank Grammar is 50%. Students holding a scholarship for less than this amount may apply to increase the remission to a maximum of 50% in future scholarship rounds.
Will parents and families be able to tour the school whilst the students are sitting the exam on Monday 22 August?
Monday 22 August is a Curriculum Day at Firbank Grammar and as such, there will be only limited students and teaching staff on site. For this reason, we recommend families attend one of our Open Morning tours to experience the vibrance of Firbank Grammar in action. The next Firbank Open Mornings are:

My child is not available to sit the exam on this date, is there an alternative time that they can sit the exam?
Unfortunately we are unable to offer alternative exam dates for students who are unavailable on Monday 22 August. Our next round of Scholarships will be in February 2023 and details will be available on our website and our social media platforms in December 2022. Please note that the February 2023 exams are for 2024 Scholarships.
If my child is successful at achieving a scholarship at one of the Junior Campuses, will the scholarship continue to the Firbank Senior Campus?
Subject to an ongoing high standard of achievement and demonstration of the School’s values, Firbank scholarships are tenable until the student has completed Year 12 for girls, and until the end of Year 6 for boys.
How should my child prepare for the scholarship exam?
The best preparation is to have you child arrive relaxed and refreshed on the testing day. Special preparation or coaching is not likely to improve your child’s results. Academic Assessment Services, AAS (our scholarship testing provider) does not provide practice exams. Further information regarding what to bring to the exam will be communicated by AAS prior to the exam.
Will we receive a copy of our child’s results?
In line with many Australian independent schools, it is Firbank Grammar’s policy not to provide scholarship applicant’s results to families. Scholarship results cannot be transferred to other schools and scholarship results from other schools will not be accepted by Firbank Grammar.
We do not live in Melbourne, is my child able to sit the scholarship exam remotely?
Students who reside overseas or live more than three hours’ drive from Firbank Grammar can register to sit the Firbank Scholarship exam remotely by selecting the Remote and Overseas option when completing the scholarship application.
What will my child need to prepare if they are given a music audition?
Auditions last for approximately 20 minutes. Candidates will need to perform two or three contrasting pieces depending on length. If a candidate plays two or more instruments, then two pieces should be played using the major instrument with the third piece on the minor instrument. Some sight reading will also be given. Candidates will need to provide their own accompanist if required.
