The ultimate result of service will be the development and roll-out of an internal communications strategy supporting OCHA in its efforts to improve organizational culture and promote two-way communication across the organization.
Development of an internal communications product matrix.
Internal communication at all levels is strengthened, resulting in alignment of messaging.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures there is a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response efforts.

OCHA is conducting a review of its communication practices to support the transformation of its organizational culture in line with the United Nations’ values & behaviors framework and the implementation of its revised People Strategy.



Duties and Responsibilities

The communications specialist will be responsible for the following:
• Conduct a comprehensive review of current internal communication initiatives undertaken by different OCHA HQ Divisions
• Develop an internal communication strategy to be implemented by OCHA as part of efforts to improve organizational culture and promote two-way communication among leaders, managers, and employees.
• Produce and ensure quality control of internal communication materials and products.Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public information, communications, journalism, international relations, public relations, digital media, marketing or related area is required.
Experience in conceptualizing, designing and producing communications materials, and related documents for targeted audiences is required.
Experience in communications, including internal communications, at the United Nations or other international organizations is desirable.
Language: For this vacancy fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French
or Arabic is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
