YORK ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS

Some helpful tips: 

  • Scholarships and awards for international students are limited and you should be prepared to support yourself throughout your studies at York 
  • Awards which do not require an application are noted with “no award application required” — you are automatically considered for them 
  • For awards requiring an application, complete the  International Student Scholarship & Award Application early. 
  • The application closes by February 1, 2022 at 11:59:59pm, Eastern Time.
  • US students: It is possible to transfer your government-funded FAFSA loans to assist you when studying at Glendon Campus. York University’s FAFSA code is G07679.

YORK INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS REQUIRING AN APPLICATION

By submitting the International Student Scholarship & Award Application, you will be considered for the scholarships listed below except for the Tentanda Via Award (you must specifically select the Tentanda Via Award on the application form to be considered):

These scholarships and awards are for applicants with an exceptional academic profile, and who demonstrate leadership through community service or excellence in the arts or sport. Students do not need an offer of admission to apply for York entrance awards and scholarships. 
Note:  Scholarship values are subject to change.  

Important dates: 

  • December 1, 2021 – The Fall/Winter 2022-2023 application will open, full details on the scholarships below will be available. 
  • January 15, 2022 – Deadline to submit your application for admission to York in order to be eligible to apply for international scholarships. 
  • February 1, 2022  Deadline to submit your International Student Scholarship & Award Application form. 
  • May 1, 2022 – Award winners will be notified. 

Requirements: 

  • Must have a 9-digit York reference number,  which you will receive within 5 business days of applying for admission to York.  
  • Must be an international student who is required to have a Study Permit to study in Canada 
  • Must have applied to an undergraduate degree program at York that begins in  Fall 2022 
  • Must have applied to York directly from high school no more than two years after graduation, and have no previous university or college studies 
  • Must have an excellent academic record with a minimum “A” average or equivalent 
  • Must have demonstrated leadership through community service or excellence in the arts, sports, or other areas of individual achievement 
  • Must be nominated by their high school (schools may nominate one student only) 
  • The nominated student will be considered for the International Entrance Scholarship of Distinction, the Global Leader of Tomorrow Award, the International Circle of Scholars Scholarships, and the York University Academic Excellence Scholarships 
  • Candidates must speak to their school guidance counsellor, principal, or administration about the York International Student Scholarship & Award Application, and receive confirmation that they are the individual from that school who has been nominated 
  • The candidate must then provide the name, position, e-mail, and phone number of the nominator in the application form 
  • Must upload one letter of recommendation 
  • Must ensure all required documents are shown as “Received” in the York application (MyFile), by  February 1, 2022 at 11:59:59pm, Eastern Time 
  • Must complete and submit the online International Student Scholarship Application by  February 1, 2022 at 11:59:59pm, Eastern Time

By submitting the International Student Scholarship & Award Application, you will be considered for all of the scholarships listed below: 

President’s International Scholarship of Excellence$180,000 ($45,000 x 4 years)Twenty (20) of these scholarships are awarded per year, valued at $45,000/year. It is renewable for an additional three years of full-time undergraduate study if the student maintains good academic standing each year, bringing it to a total of $180,000 over four years.
International Entrance Scholarship of Distinction$140,000 ($35,000 x 4 years)Three (3) of these scholarships are awarded per year, valued at $35,000/year. It is renewable for an additional three years of full-time undergraduate study if the student maintains high academic standing each year, bringing it to a total of $140,000 over four years. 

Global Leader of Tomorrow Award for International Students 

$80,000 ($20,000 x 4 years) 

Two (2) of these scholarships are awarded per year, valued at $20,000/year. It is renewable for an additional three years of full-time undergraduate study if the student maintains high academic standing each year, bringing it to a total of $80,000 over four years.

Award description at a glance:The Tentanda Via Award has been created to recognize undergraduate students who: (a) Have had to face significant personal barriers, and who despite these challenges, have persevered and demonstrated fortitude and resilience in overcoming these personal barriers in the pursuit of a university education; or (b) Are student leaders/changemakers who are pushing boundaries by demonstrating commitment to progressive and sustainable development initiatives by making a difference regarding compelling issues of our time (either connected to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (‘SDGs’) or other complex issues).Fifteen (15) of these awards are awarded per year, valued at $30,000/year. It is renewable for an additional three years of full-time undergraduate study if the student maintains good academic standing each year, bringing it to a total of $120,000 over four years.Click here to review the full award details in York’s awards database 

International Circle of Scholar’s Scholarship

$15,000 

One (1) of these scholarships is awarded per year, valued at $15,000. It is for $15,000 towards a student’s first year of study. 

York University Academic Excellence Scholarships for International Students

$5,000-10,000 

Five (5) to 10 of these scholarships are awarded per year, valued at $5,000 to $10,000. It is for $5,000 to $10,000 towards a student’s first year of study.
