Fully-Funded PhD Scholarships at Durham University 2021

We are pleased to announce the availability of fully-funded fee scholarhips for outstanding PhD applicants starting in 2021.These scholarships are aimed at high-calibre students who wish to pursue a research career in academia, government, research organisations, or in business.

The scholarships are available to students from all nationalities and cover both home and international student tuition fees with an additional maintenance allowance of £15,600 pa for 3 years.

The deadline for PhD scholarship application is 17:00 (GMT) on 1 August 2021.

Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to contact members of the research centres about their research topic and to seek their advice on developing the proposal they wish to submit. The full proposal (max. 2000 words) for submission is then submitted along with (1) a University Postgraduate Application Form; and (2) a current c.v. – max 2 pages.

Our PhD students enjoy close supervision by internationally renowned staff that specialise in their research topic, and have access to a wide range of advanced research training courses, some of which is provided in coordination with the ESRC-funded NINE Doctoral Training Partnership (NINEDTP). Students also participate in a large number of research centre and departmental activities, such as seminar series, workshops and conferences.

A range of studentships funded by ESRC NINE DTP can be applied for:

a) +3 Year Studentships for students who have already completed, or will have completed by the

commencement of their PhD, a Masters that included 60 credits or more of core research methods training.

b) 1+3 Year Studentships for students who are yet to commence a research methods training Masters degree.

c) +3.5 Year Studentships for students who have completed, or will have completed by the commencement of their PhD, a Masters in a relevant discipline, but who have not completed or will not successfully complete 60 credits or more of core research methods training. Students selected for these awards will also be registered on and required to complete a 60-credit Research Training Certificate during their first year of study, but receive an additional six (6) months funding in support of this.

d) Part-time equivalents to the above studentships are available across all accredited pathways.
