Concordia University Scholarship Award for International Students in Canada

Concordia University Scholarship Award for International Students in Canada

At Concordia University, competitive funding packages are offered at the time of admission, allowing students to focus on their research and studies. These funding packages may include awards that are generated by the operating funds of Concordia University and/or through the generosity of individual donors.

A sample of awards paid through the operating funds of Concordia University include the following:

  • Out of Province Award, which reduces tuition for out of province (Quebec) students to the Quebec rate. Valued at approximately $8,878.
  • Concordia University Doctoral Graduate Fellowships, valued at $14,000 per year for four years.
  • Concordia International Tuition Award of Excellence, which reduces tuition to the Quebec rate. Valued at approximately $43,211.
  • Concordia Merit Scholarship, valued at $10,000.

These awards are often topped up with teaching and research assistantships, making the overall funding package financially sufficient and allowing students to finish their degree in a timely manner.

Students wishing to benefit from these awards are encouraged to apply early for admission; there is no separate application process for graduate fellowships.

Concordia International Tuition Award of Excellence

All international PhD students admitted to a doctoral program at Concordia University will be awarded a Concordia International Tuition Award of Excellence.  This award represents a reduction of tuition fees from the international rate to the Quebec rate.  Although this award will exempt international PhD students from paying tuition fees at the international student rate, students will still be required to cover the costs of tuition fees at the regular Quebec rate. Students will also be responsible for all miscellaneous and yearly foreign medical insurance fees.  Please consult the Tuition Fee Calculator for more information concerning the tuition, miscellaneous and health insurance fees.

The Concordia International Tuition Award of Excellence will apply in one of two ways.  Either students will automatically be charged Quebec fees once a particular code is applied to the student’s profile by the University, or students will be charged the international rate, but the differential between the international tuition fees and the Quebec tuition fees will be deposited to the students’ student account by Concordia University.  In both cases, the adjustment of international fees will occur around the DNE deadline date for each respective term.

Indigenous Graduate Scholarships

Concordia offers “top-up” funding to Indigenous graduate students who have been awarded scholarships. There are 10 doctoral and 20 master’s scholarships annually, each valued at $10,000, with the doctoral scholarship offering $10,000 per year for up to four years. Departments may nominate students upon their acceptance to a graduate program. Only Indigenous students from Indigenous communities and nations from Canada and the U.S. are eligible. Students may not apply directly.

Applicants are automatically considered for all Concordia entrance scholarships through the individual faculty’s graduate admissions office.
