University of Waikato International Excellence Scholarship in New Zealand
- Value: Up to NZD$20,000 towards tuition fees
- Study Level: Undergraduate, Postgraduate (Taught)
- Closing Date: Applications for 2022 and 2023 can be submitted at any time
The University welcomes applications for the University of Waikato International Excellence Scholarship from international students who are currently in New Zealand and are new to studying at Waikato, for face-to-face study in 2022 or 2023.
Students who study online with the University are not eligible to apply for the International Excellence Scholarship, with the exception of students who choose to study at the Waikato China Learning Centre (CLC) at Hainan University.
All new international students (excluding CLC students) who wish to commence their studies online in 2022 will instead be automatically awarded a 20% discount on their tuition fees and will receive a travel grant once the borders have reopened and they transfer to New Zealand for face-to-face studies.
To date, the NZ Government has announced that the New Zealand border will re-open for international students in October 2022. The only students who are eligible to enter New Zealand earlier are students who hold a current student visa, or students who have been nominated through an approved border exception.
Please note that while the New Zealand border will open in May to travellers from visa waiver countries, this is for visitor visas only. International students studying a programme of longer than 12 weeks are not eligible to study on a visitor’s visa. For up-to-date information regarding the New Zealand border re-opening, please visit the Immigration New Zealand website.
