The University of Edinburgh Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre Scholarships (Fully Funded)
The Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC) are offering two fully funded scholarships for the MSc in Marine Systems and Policies for the 2020-2021 academic session. The successful recipients must undertake their dissertation project with one of the SAIC’s consortium partners.
Award
Two fully-funded scholarships worth £15,550 each towards tuition fees.
The recipients will be entitled to attend Masters training and networking events provided by SAIC and join the SAIC Scholars Virtual Learning Environment.
Eligibility
We welcome applications from Scottish and EU status students commencing the taught MSc in Marine Systems and Policies at the University of Edinburgh in 2020-2021.
This scholarship is for new students commencing in the academic year 2020-2021. Applicants who have already commenced their programme of study on the closing date are not eligible for this scholarship. Applicants intending to study part-time or online distance learning courses are not eligible for this scholarship. Funding cannot be extended and funded places may not be deferred. Transfer of this scholarship to another programme is not permitted.
Criteria
Applicants must have, or expect to obtain, the international equivalent of a UK 2:1 Honours degree at undergraduate level.
- By accepting this Scholarship the recipient agrees to undertake an MSc project developed in partnership with a Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC) consortium industry member company that is relevant to the Scottish Industry.
- The applicant should have also already made contact with one of the SAIC members to discuss potential dissertation topics. Applicants are welcome to approach any of SAIC’s member-consortium.
- The applicant must provide a one page Personal Statement which must include their interest in the marine aquaculture sector, and outline how the scholarship will help the applicant. The Personal Statement must also include whether the applicant has discussed a research project with a SAIC consortium partner and if a project has already been agreed.

Please note:
- If the student does not complete their project with a SAIC partner as detailed above, they will be required to repay this funding.
- The student will be required to produce a final report of their research and submit this to SAIC within 2 weeks of submission of their final assessment.
Applying
Applicants who have received a conditional or unconditional offer who meet the eligibility criteria are welcome to apply. Applicants with conditional offers will only be valid to receive the scholarship once they receive an unconditional offer.

Notification
A Selection Committee will meet to select the recipients and all applicants will be notified of the outcome, with results expected by 28 June 2020.
After the two recipients have been shortlisted by late July, they must then confirm their agreed research project with the SAIC consortium member and to Dr. Henry and Dr. Hennige before funding is guaranteed.
Successful recipients will be exempt from paying the deposit fee; if an applicant has already paid the deposit fee, this will be fully refunded to the student once the programme starts.
