The University of Derby Scholarships for International Students in UK, 2020

In partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, the University of Derby are offering two scholarships to students from China or Thailand applying for postgraduate courses starting in September 2020. 

This scholarship scheme is part of the “GREAT Scholarships 2020” campaign, which has been launched by the British Council together with UK universities to support more students access excellent UK higher education opportunities. The GREAT Britain Campaign is the UK government’s initiative to promote the UK internationally as a GREAT place to visit, study and do business. The British Council is a partner in the campaign to raise awareness and promote UK’s strengths in education, English language and the arts.

The value of the scholarship is £11,000 and offers an exciting opportunity for students from China or Thailand to get financial support to pursue postgraduate study in the UK. Students can apply for courses in a range of subjects and the scholarship is open to both new and progression applicants. 

Profile of a GREAT Scholar

• Be a citizen of a GREAT target country
• Have an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate programme at a UK university
• Motivated and academically able to follow and benefit from a UK postgraduate taught course
• Active in the field with work experience or with a proven interest in the proposed subject area
• Meet the English language requirement of the University of Derby
• Willing to embody the University of Derby experience, by attending lectures and tutorials and engaging with extra-curricular activities, and act as an ambassador for University of Derby, by promoting the value of studying at a UK HEI
• Willing to establish an engagement with the UK as a scholar, through personal and academic fulfilment
• Represent the high standards of the GREAT brand by becoming an advocate for scholarships
• Willing to attend a networking event of all UK-based GREAT scholars, to discuss experiences and capture perceptions of studying in the UK

On return:

• Willing to demonstrate future contribution to capacity-building and socio-economic advancement through the benefits achieved after graduating from UK higher education
• Willing to maintain contact with the British Council and act as an ambassador for the GREAT Scholarships, by sharing experiences of studying in the UK with future GREAT scholars
• As an alumnus of the GREAT Scholarships, willing occasionally to speak to potential candidates about his or her own experience of studying in the UK

Choose your postgraduate taught course and apply directly through the course page on our website.

• All applications from eligible students from China and Thailand will be assessed against the criteria for a GREAT Scholar profile by our international admissions team
• If successful, we will notify you of your scholarship by email
• The deadline for applications for this scholarship is 31 March 2020
• If you are awarded a GREAT scholarship, you are not eligible to receive any other scholarships or discounts from the University of Derby
