Admissions Policy (Master’s and Doctoral Programs)

Master’s Program: 
The Graduate School of Engineering invites applications from candidates who have familiarized themselves with the content of the master’s program, who hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification, and who wish to improve their abilities as engineers while learning to make full use of engineering techniques and to apply the most advanced technologies when solving problems. Applicants are expected to have the necessary foundation to take an internationally active role in addressing problems that will lead to the enrichment of society while respecting the environment on a global scale. In particular, applicants should:

1) be eager to tackle contemporary problems and find solutions that contribute to the future of society on a global scale;
2) have a comprehensive understanding of fields related to mechanical and electrical engineering; and
3) be motivated to confront a multitude of issues by developing scientific and academic expertise in their chosen specializations.

Doctoral Program: 
The Graduate School of Engineering invites applications from candidates wishing to further develop their specialized technical knowledge and research ability previously acquired in a master’s program, to improve their comprehensive understanding of science and technology, to refine their ability to communicate effectively in the research community, and to take the initiative in solving complex and compound problems at the forefront of knowledge. In particular, applicants should:
 
1) be eager to tackle complex contemporary issues and find innovative solutions contributing to the future of society from a global perspective;
2) have obtained a master’s degree or equivalent qualification with specialized knowledge in fields related to mechanical and electrical engineering; and
3) be strongly motivated to confront a multitude of issues by pursuing the highest level of scientific and academic expertise in their chosen field.

Eligibility

a) Academic Entry Requirements

(Master’s Program)

The primary entry requirements suppose that every applicant has completed the equivalent of 16 years of education, including graduating from a university program.

(Doctoral Program)

For the doctoral program, every applicant must have graduated from both an undergraduate and graduate (master’s level) program.

b) English language requirements (for both Master’s and Doctoral Programs):

You must meet the minimum required score in place to ensure your level of English proficiency. To confirm which tests we accept and the applicable minimum scores, please check our “application checklist”.

You can be exempt from having to show your English proficiency if you are from a native-English speaking country or have completed your degree in English.

c) Prior Supervisor Consent

All applicants must contact the Admission Office through the online form in order to obtain prior consent from at least one prospective supervisor before submitting the application. If you have multiple research interests, it is possible to select more than one supervisor (only applicable to the Master’s Program). However, be aware that you must write a separate research plan for each proposal, and that you have to settle on one supervisor and research topic eventually. Once you have filled out a request, the Admission Office will contact the supervisor on your behalf. Especially for the doctoral program, you may be required to directly consult with your supervisor. Following this step, you will be notified of your supervisor’s decision via email within one month. Once you have received prior supervisor consent, you are eligible to apply for our graduate programs (supervisor consent does not guarantee admission).

If you have multiple research interests, it is possible to select more than one supervisor (only applicable to the Master’s Program). However, be aware that you must write a separate research plan for each proposal.

Applicants who wish to receive a scholarship must indicate so in their application to KUAS. As a rule, scholarships are provided to students who perform exceptionally well in their academic field.

Once a student is selected to receive a scholarship, their performance is reviewed each semester based on their academic performance as well as evaluations from their teachers. Students who are awarded scholarships are expected to maintain exceptional academic performance while also acting as a model for other students. If a student fails to maintain a high level of academic performance or is found to have behaved in a way that damages the reputation of KUAS, their scholarship may be subject to revocation. 

All documents submitted for application to KUAS will be used during scholarship screening, and applicants will be informed of the results of their enrollment application as well as their scholarship application at the same time.

After enrolling, students can also apply to scholarships provided by external organizations (excluding those provided by other universities).
