Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University Tuition Reduction Scholarship in Japan

APU Tuition Reduction Scholarships are offered in percentages of 30%, 50%, 65%, 80% and 100%, and cover the least amount of academic credits needed to graduate within the standard period of time. These scholarships are made available by the financial contributions of domestic and international companies and individuals, together with the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), to support the ideals of APU, with the purpose of helping to reduce the financial burden for outstanding international students of lesser financial means.

Eligibility

Applicants who will obtain a Japanese status of residence (visa status) of student before enrolling at APU are eligible to apply for the APU Tuition reduction Scholarship at the time of application to APU. If you are not able to receive a status of residence of student by the time of enrollment to APU, the APU Tuition Reduction Scholarship will be revoked. The scholarship will also be revoked if you change to a status of residence other than student while studying at APU.

How to Apply

You can apply for the APU Tuition Reduction Scholarship through the online application system. Applicants who apply earlier have a greater chance at receiving the APU Tuition Reduction Scholarship.
When applying for the APU Tuition Reduction Scholarship, you will have to provide additional details on family income (within the online application system).

Evaluation

An overall evaluation of all submitted documents, interview performance, and the online assessment will be conducted for both the undergraduate application and scholarship application. The scholarship results will be released together with the final application results. Also, applicants who apply earlier have a greater chance at receiving the APU Tuition Reduction Scholarship.

Other Information

Students awarded with these scholarships are expected to maintain a good academic record, serve as role models for other students, and complete all tasks assigned to them. In the case of inappropriate behavior unbefitting of a scholarship recipient, the scholarship will be revoked. A review of academic performance and other criteria will be conducted each semester to determine whether or not recipients qualify for renewal of this scholarship.

Note that tuition amount may be subject to change. In addition, the tuition for the first year of study is different from the tuition for the second through fourth years of study.

AP House Global Community Scholarship *Available from 2023

APU would like to support applicants who have a strong will to enter APU, but face difficulties in attending classes due to the economic impacts of COVID 19, by providing a temporary AP House Global Community Scholarship. One of the main points of consideration for the selection process is whether recipients will become exemplary house residents and take advantage of the multicultural environment.

Support

The AP House Global Community Scholarship exempts recipients from the full AP House Fees for a total of 11 months.

The expenses below include those other than the monthly AP House Rent. However, the AP House Entrance Fee does include an intial payment towards rent.

You can apply for the AP House Global Community Scholarship within the online application system, under the Tuition Reduction Scholarship section. Please ensure to answer all of the additional questions regarding family income.

In addition, students awarded with the AP House Global Community Scholarship are required to act as model students during their on-campus housing life. The exemption will be terminated in case of inappropriate behavior unbefitting of an exemplary student.
