Merit scholarships for Vocational Training in Quebec, Canada

Objectives

  • To support the internationalisation of vocational training centers.
  • To offer exceptionally talented international students the opportunity to come and undergo vocational training in Québec
  • To enhance a steady offer and wide coverage of vocational training.

Amount and features

  • The annual budget for merit scholarship award is $ 700 000 (making about 30 awards annually).
  • The value ranges from $14 000 to $ 26 000, depending on the duration of the training program.
  • Both the merit scholarship and tuition exception awards are based on excellent performance and results during the study project in Québec.

These are two programs being financed by the Ministry of Education and Higher Learning (MEES) and managed by Éducation internationale through its Québec métiers d’avenir service. One single selection process is conducted for the two programs.

For your information, almost 1 100 candidates applied for the 2019-2020 selection process and only about 100 applications were submitted by the School Boards for final selection.

To be eligible, you must:

  • Not be a citizen of France or Canada. Priority will be given to applicants from member countries of the Francophonie (excluding France and its overseas departments and territories – DOM-TOM), and countries of the leading markets of Asia (China, India, Japan) and the Americas (Mexico, Brazil).
  • Not have Canadian citizenship or a Canadian permanent resident status or be in the process of obtaining the permanent residence status under the Canadian immigration laws.
  • Be outside of Canada at the time of submitting your application and up till the announcement of results.
  • Not be less than 18 years of age. There is no maximum age limit;
  • Not have been a beneficiary of a scholarship awards for studies of the same level as or higher than the DEP in Quebec. In addition, being awarded various scholarships within the same academic year is not allowed
  • Have the required financial capacity.

To register:

  1. Eligibility : Find out if you are eligible to participate in the process.
  2. Choice of training program : Choose your training program and training centre from the proposed list (only ONE choice is possible).
  3. Choice of award program : Choose the award program that you are applying for (Merit Scholarship and Exemption OR Merit Scholarship only).
  4. Registration: Open your online account (this section will only be available after the selection process is officially open).

Package your application by making sure that it is well completed with the following documents enclosed:

  • Two recommendation forms completed by two different persons (Click here to download the A Annex)
  • A copy of the bio-data page of your passport.
  • A copy of your birth certificate.
  • A copy of all transcripts for each of the programs mentioned in the academic documents section.
  • A copy of all diplomas that you have obtained.
  • A copy of all prizes, awards or distinctions received.
  • A copy of your English language test result (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.), or a proof of registration for such EXCEPT you have completed a higher education program of not less than 2-year duration in English language.
  • Proof of sufficient financial capacity required for the chosen award program ($3 000 or $15 000)

PLEASE NOTE : Scholarship award programs are different from the Québec métiers d’avenir service. Make sure that you register for the right program or service of your choice.Multiple applications will be automatically rejected.
