Hinrich Global Trade Leader Scholarships launched for NTU Singapore’s Professional MBA
Hinrich Foundation launches scholarships for NTU Singapore’s Professional MBA (International Trading) students to support the development of future leaders from around the world in international cross-border trade.
Singapore, 17 Feb 2022 – To support the development of future leaders from around the world in international cross-border trade, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) today announced new scholarships offered by the Hinrich Foundation, an Asia-based philanthropic organisation focused on advancing mutually beneficial and sustainable global trade.
The Hinrich Foundation Global Trade Leader Scholarships are open to participants of the Nanyang Professional Master of Business Administration (PMBA) programme specialising in International Trading, an 18-month course conducted by the Nanyang Business School (NBS) at NTU Singapore to train experienced professionals in the trade sector to lead effectively across markets and cultures.
The first Global Trade Leader scholarship of S$30,000 will be awarded to a Nanyang PMBA (International Trading) candidate in the new academic year in July.
NTU Associate Professor Lee Boon Keng, Academic Director, Nanyang PMBA (International Trading), and Director of the Centre for Applied Financial Education at NBS, said: “With 30 per cent of Asia’s trade conducted through Singapore and over 400 global, regional, and local commodities players located here, there is high demand for expertise in both broad and deep skills for leaders to be effective in a dynamic global trading environment. The Global Trade Leader Scholarship will encourage more professionals to take up the Nanyang PMBA in International Trading and become effective leaders in the sector. This is in line with Hinrich Foundation’s core objective of advancing mutually beneficial and sustainable global trade through research and education. We look forward to a long-lasting partnership with Hinrich.”
“Sustainable trade practices are not intuitive. They must be taught,” said Alex Boome, Program Director of the Hinrich Foundation. “In order for trade to be sustainable, it must balance the environmental and societal imperatives with economic benefits. And key to that happening is to ensure the trade sector has a robust pipeline of next-generation leadership talent. We see the NTU’s Nanyang PMBA (International Trading) programme as meeting that need.”
The Nanyang PMBA (International Trading) programme, a first of its kind in Asia, offers working professionals a holistic curriculum that develops cross-cultural intelligence, knowledge of emerging technologies, awareness of sustainability and regulatory issues, and the ability to manage opportunities and risks in the dynamic global trading environment.
It is designed in close consultation with industry leaders and with the support of Enterprise Singapore to ensure direct relevance to industry requirements and challenges.
Aside from tuition fee support, recipients of the Global Trade Leader Scholarship will be able to expand their global network of like-minded trade leaders through membership in both the NBS and Hinrich Foundation Alumni Associations.
Candidates with at least three years of work experience and a strong interest in global trade in Asia upon graduation can apply for the scholarship.
The deadline for scholarship application is 30 March 2022.
