Fully-Funded Master of Economic policies for the global transition, Erasmus Mundus, EMJMD Program 2021-2022

Persistent financial fragilities combined with growing income and wealth inequalities and the looming major ecological crisis represent major world challenges. Multiple studies show that the current inequality level is having a negative impact on economic recovery while the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is underlining the dangers and systemic effects of global warming (IPCC, 2018). Therefore, a reorientation of economic growth and development towards long-term sustainability is becoming ever more crucial. As the world now appears increasingly uncertain, this context calls for a consistent and lucid rethinking of the economic policy base and implies an increasing need for well-integrated economic and social expertise contributing to the design and management of these policies.
Economic POlicies for the Global transition (EPOG+) is a two-year international master’s programme tailored to addressing these future challenges. Its concept relies on the fact that designing, implementing and assessing economic policies for the required transition processes calls for experts and highly trained researchers, with state-of-the-art knowledge and skills in specific fields, combined with a broader understanding of economic policy interdependencies.
The uniqueness of the EPOG+ programme relies on this “systemic/holistic” approach, i.e., the ability to offer each student a specific field of study related to the chosen Major (A- Knowledge, innovation and digital transition; B- Macroeconomics, finance and the socioeconomic transition; C- Development, sustainable development and the ecological transition), together with courses, seminars and activities related to the other Majors. By reconciling these two dimensions, graduates will be better prepared to address the related challenges and to bridge the academic and policy communities.
Although the courses will be delivered in the English language, the programme also aims to provide a multicultural training and grounding: it includes a (at least basic) knowledge of the French language for all, with the possibility of acquiring language skills in the language of the country where the student has chosen to study.
Eligibility
All applicants, wherever they come from, are eligible for Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) scholarships provided they fulfill the minimum academic requirements, as stated on the admission page and with the following exceptions and conditions:
- Students who have previously obtained an EMJMD scholarship or an Erasmus Mundus Master Course or Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate scholarship are not eligible;
- EMJMD scholarship holders cannot benefit from another EU funded scholarship scheme to follow the same EMJMD course and this for the entire period of the course.
Amount of the Erasmus Mundus scholarship
The Erasmus Mundus scholarship includes student participation costs (tuition fees, full insurance coverage and any other mandatory costs related to student participation in the course), a contribution to student travel and installation cost and a subsistence allowance for the entire duration of the EMJMD study programme (23 or 24 months for the EPOG+ programme).
Contribution to subsistence costs:
1 000 euros per month for the entire duration of the EMJMD study programme (23 or 24 months maximum).
Important: contribution to subsistence costs will not be given to the scholarship holders for the EMJMD periods (study/research/placement/thesis preparation) spent in their country of residence, nor to scholarship holders from a Partner Country for the EMJMD periods exceeding one trimester (i.e. 3 months or the equivalent of 15 ECTS credits) spent in any Partner Country.
In particular, Erasmus Mundus scholarship holders from Partner countries enrolled in Minors C1 and C2 will keep their scholarship during Semester 2 (less than 4 months in Johannesburg) but they won’t be able to keep their scholarship if they want to go in a Partner country for Semester 4.
Contribution to the travel and installation costs
For scholarship holder resident in a Programme country: 1000 euros per year (for travel costs)
For a scholarship holder resident in a Partner country less than 4000 KM from Paris: 2000 euros per year (for travel costs) + 1000 euros (for installation costs)
For a scholarship holder resident in a Partner country 4000 KM or more from Paris: 3000 euros per year (for travel costs) + 1000 euros (for installation costs)
Contribution to the participation cost
- 9 000 euros per year per Partner Country scholarship holder
- 4 500 euros per year per Programme Country scholarship holder
- That means in particular that all tuition and fees are covered by the scholarship in the EPOG+ programme for scholarship holders.
