Fulbright Scholar Program Awards 2022-2023

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is the largest program of its kind in the United States, awarding more than 800 fellowships annually. Over 400 different types of opportunities are available to teach, research and conduct professional projects in more than 135 countries.

February 1	Competition Opens
September 15	Application deadline; all materials, including letters of recommendation, due
October-1	Letter of Invitation deadline for awards that require it
October-November	U.S. Peer Review
November-December	Applicants notified of peer review status
December-April	In country review
January-May	Applicants notified of final selection status

Note: This timeline may not apply to IEA seminars as they have varied deadlines.

Review Criteria

Applicant training, background, and experience:The applicant possesses the training, credentials, and active professional standing, as appropriate for their project, discipline, and career path, and meets all stated requirements for the award, including language proficiency (if applicable).Quality of project:The project is feasible, original, well-designed, innovative, and demonstrates relevance and currency to the discipline.Project’s potential impact, outcome, and benefits:The project demonstrates broad, sustainable impact beyond the length of the award period and clearly describes plans to disseminate results.Personal qualities:The applicant displays an ability to be adaptable, culturally sensitive, collegial, and can serve as a cultural ambassador for the U.S.Veteran status:Preference is given to veterans of the U.S. armed forces when other factors are equivalent.Note:Awards shall not authorize engagement in pastoral, missionary, or other professional religious activities nor activities for which a license to practice medicine or nursing is required.

Application Components

Project Statement	Up to 5 pages
CV/Resume	Up to 6 pages; up to 8 pages for Distinguished Chair awards
Letters of Recommendation	Two
Bibliography	Required for Research and Teaching/Research awards, up to 3 pages
Syllabi/course outlines	Required for Teaching and Teaching/Research awards, up to 10 pages
Letter of Invitation from host institution	Only if required or recommended by award description
Language proficiency	Only if required or recommended by award description
Digital Portfolio	Digital Portfolio Only for applicants in the creative/performing arts. Portfolios are limited to no more than 10 images, 15 pages in length or 30 minutes of audiovisual files.
