Terms and conditions

Terms and conditions relating to the UWE Bristol international scholarships available to undergraduate and postgraduate new students classed as overseas for fees purpose at UWE Bristol starting a course this academic year. 

  • You can only be in receipt of one University of the West of England scholarship. If you meet the eligibility criteria for more than one of the scholarships, you will be awarded the scholarship which is the most beneficial to you (unless otherwise stated).
  • Successful candidates will be notified in writing. Full terms and conditions for the scholarship will be sent with the scholarship award letter.
  • All scholarships will be given as a tuition fee remission.
  • These are one-off awards, which are non-renewable after the first year of study unless otherwise specified.
  • All scholarships, unless otherwise specified, are non-deferrable. If you are offered a scholarship and then choose to defer your place, the offer of the scholarship will be withdrawn and you will have to re-apply or will be reconsidered for the scholarship again the following year.

Exceptions

Please note:

  • Scholarships are not available in respect of the English language pre-sessional programmes.
  • The MBA, BPTC, LPC, GDL, MSc Robotics and postgraduate research degrees courses are not eligible for the Chancellor’s and Millennium 50% tuition fees postgraduate scholarships.
  • Continuing professional development (CPD) courses are not eligible for any postgraduate scholarships.
  • Students enrolling at Hartpury University are not eligible for any of the UWE Bristol scholarships.
  • Students enrolling at a UWE Bristol Partner Institution overseas are not eligible for any of the UWE Bristol scholarships until studying at a UWE Bristol campus (unless otherwise stated)

Postgraduate scholarships

Chancellor’s and Millennium

Applicants who hold an offer and who have achieved the equivalent of a British first in an undergraduate degree, will be invited to apply for a postgraduate scholarship, such as Chancellor’s and Millennium via their UWE Welcome portal.

Eligibility for Millennium and Chancellor’s

Applicants will be eligible for consideration if the following criteria are met:

  • You must have achieved the equivalent of a British first in an undergraduate degree as per the postgraduate scholarship academic requirement.
  • You must hold an unconditional offer or a conditional offer where IELTS or equivalent English language is the only condition from the University of the West of England, Bristol.
  • You must be a national of, and resident in a country outside of the EU.
  • You must not have previously studied in the UK.
  • You must be classed as overseas for fees purposes.
  • You must have provided the official transcripts at the time of application.
  • You must not be a sponsored student or in receipt of another scholarship/award.

Postgraduate programme-specific scholarships

Faculty of Arts, Creative Industries and Education (ACE) Deans International Scholarship

Applicants who hold an unconditional offer OR a conditional offer where IELTS or equivalent English language is the only condition will be invited to apply for the programme-specific scholarship:

  • MA Animation
  • MA Photography
  • MA Screen Business
  • MA Screen Production (Documentary)
  • MA Screen Production (Screenwriting)
  • MA Virtual and Extended Realities
  • MA Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking
  • MA Design
  • MA Graphic Arts

Eligibility for the ACE Deans International Scholarship

Applicants will be eligible for consideration if the following criteria are met:

  • You must hold an unconditional offer or a conditional offer where IELTS or equivalent English language is the only condition.
  • You must be a new student to UWE Bristol with no previous UK study.
  • You must be classed as overseas for fees purposes.
  • You must be a national of, and resident in a country outside of the EU.
  • You must not be a sponsored student or in receipt of another scholarship/award.
  • You must provide official transcripts at the time of application.

Note for successful candidates: 

Upon reward of the scholarship, the successful candidate will have five working days to accept the scholarship and pay their deposit. You will need to prove when accepting the Scholarship that you satisfy the UKVI criteria in terms of being able to cover living costs and the remainder of the fee.

Faculty of Health and Applied Science (HAS) MSc Scholarship and Dean’s Scholarship

Applicants who hold an offer for one of the following courses and have achieved either a first or 2:1 will be invited to apply for the programme-specific scholarship, via their UWE Welcome portal:

  • MSc Advanced Wildlife Conservation in Practice
  • MRes Applied Sciences
  • MSc Biomedical Science
  • MSc Science Communication
  • MSc Environmental Health
  • MSc Health Psychology
  • MSc Occupational Psychology
  • MRes Social Sciences
  • MSc Public Health
  • MSc Sport and Exercise Psychology

Eligibility for HAS MSc Scholarship and Dean’s Scholarship

Applicants will be eligible for consideration if the following criteria are met:

  • You must have achieved the equivalent of a British first or 2:1 in an undergraduate degree as per the postgraduate scholarship academic requirement.
  • You must hold an unconditional offer or a conditional offer where IELTS or equivalent English language is the only condition from the University of the West of England, Bristol.
  • You must be a national of, and resident in a country outside of the EU.
  • You must not have previously studied in the UK.
  • You must be classed as overseas for fees purpose.
  • You must have provided the official transcripts at the time of application.
  • You must not be a sponsored student or in receipt of another scholarship/award.

Undergraduate scholarships

Invitation to apply for undergraduate programme-specific scholarships

Applicants who hold an offer and will be invited to apply for the programme specific scholarship, such as BA(Hons) International Business, via their UWE Welcome portal.

Eligibility for applying for an international undergraduate programme-specific scholarship

Applicants will be eligible for consideration if the following criteria are met:

  • must hold an unconditional offer or a conditional offer where IELTS or equivalent English language is the only condition from the University of the West of England, Bristol
  • must be a national of, and resident in a country outside of the EU
  • must not have previously studied in the UK
  • must be classed as overseas for fees purpose
  • must have provided the official transcripts at the time of application
  • must not be a sponsored student or in receipt of another scholarship/award.

Successful applicants

Successful candidates awarded any international overseas tuition fee scholarships will be notified in writing and the full terms and conditions for the scholarship will be sent with the scholarship award letter.

Financial responsibilities for successful candidates

  1. £3,000 deposit will have to be paid within a week upon receipt of the scholarship offer letter, if they accept the scholarship.
  2. When accepting the scholarship they will have to prove that they satisfy the UKVI criteria in terms of being able to cover living costs and the remainder of the fees.
  3. They are liable to pay any remaining if scholarship is less than 100% tuition fees, living, transport, and accommodation costs.
  4. Any extension of period of study at UWE Bristol or re-take of module etc, will be at their own expense.

Ambassadorial roles

  1. Following graduation, to be an active member of the UWE Bristol Alumni Network by helping the University to promote its programmes to prospective students.
  2. Undertake an internship working an average of six hours per week (if specified in their scholarship award letter).
  3. Take part in ambassadorial activity for the University as requested (if specified in your scholarship award letter).

Failure to fulfil these conditions may result in their scholarship being withdrawn and becoming liable for their tuition fees.
