200 Scholarships Available for International Students at University of Colorado Boulder, USA

The College of Arts and Sciences awards more than 200 scholarships each year to incoming freshmen and continuing students with a major in the Arts and Sciences.

Scholarships are awarded by the Dean’s Office and by many of the departments based on academic merit, financial need, extracurricular activities, leadership experience or other considerations. Eligibility and application requirements are listed in the scholarship details within the CU Boulder Scholarship Application.

  • Important Deadlines: The general application is available year-round, but many scholarships require applications to be submitted as early as February 15. Departmental scholarships may have different deadlines. Please be sure to check the deadline listed for each scholarship.
  • Need-Based Eligibility: To be eligible for need-based scholarship awards, applicants must submit the Free Application for Federal Student AID (FAFSA) to the Office of Financial Aid by February 15 of each calendar year. In order to remain eligible for need-based awards, FAFSA results must be submitted each year.

How to Apply

The best way to apply for CU Boulder scholarships, including those in the College of Arts and Sciences, is by submitting the CU Boulder Scholarship Application.

This is a streamlined application that allows students to apply for multiple CU Boulder scholarships by completing a general application that includes questions about extracurricular activities, community service, leadership and work experience and a general essay. After submitting the general application, students may be prompted to complete supplemental questions, such as a special essay, for additional recommended scholarship opportunities.

Once you have submitted the general application, you can browse through recommended scholarships matched to you (labeled “Recommended”), all CU Boulder scholarships (labeled “Ours”), and even external scholarships (labeled “External”).

Don’t forget to follow-up on those additional recommended scholarships by completing supplemental questions and submitting any required supporting documents by the scholarship’s deadline.

Financial Aid

Financial Aid comes from the Office of Financial Aid and may include grants, scholarships, work-study and loans. Grants and scholarships don’t need to be repaid, but loans must be repaid with interest. Work-study gives eligible students the chance to gain valuable work experience and earn money toward tuition at the same time. The amount of aid you receive is determined by the number of credits you enroll in and your aid eligibility.

  • Estimated Financial AidYou can get a general estimate of your financial aid eligibility by using the Financial Aid Estimator. The Office of Financial Aid will provide prospective students with an Estimated Financial Aid award in early spring.

In Fiscal Year 2018, CU Boulder provided more than $44 million in financial aid in the form of scholarships and grants (excluding work-study and loans) to undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences. The average amount of aid per recipient was nearly $7,000.

More information on financial aid can be found on the Office of Financial Aid’s website.
